That's not how journalism works, chris. They can't out sources, even when they get burned, for the sake of the next source and the next story. The onus is on the magazine to get the story right. Period. Fake-but-accurate is not an acceptable defense for shoddy journalism, anymore than "well we know he committed some crimes, even if he didn't do this one" is an acceptable defense for shoddy police work.
