One minor gripe of mine is the way the lay press and corporate PR’s sometimes say that a partial response is a 50% or greater shrinkage in a tumor and sometimes say that it is a 30% or greater shrinkage.

In fact, the 50% and 30% thresholds are effectively the same threshold, depending on whether shrinkage is measured in two dimensions (area on a film) or in one dimensions. 0.70^2 is almost the same as 0.50.
