Impossible to say... since they WERE NEVER AFFORDED A HEARING! (Sometimes... not all that often but sometimes, skeletons come out in those investigative hearings. Other times the qualifications and exemplary character of the nominee comes over and the nominee wins over supporters.) No reason to not have hearings unless you are afraid of that last possibility. The worst kind of hypocrisy is pulling that kind of crap then... and griping about the same process now.
