It's the rightwing trying to change the Constitution. If the religious right got into power (ands they're close) they would just love to rip up the Constitution. The founding fathers were sternly against mixing religion and politics, and they were not devout Christians by any means. In fact some of them were non-believers who didn't trust organized religion. For good reasons.
