I did no such thing. Then you need to be more careful what you say. This is what you said:"Certainly they are by almost any measure wealthier then most of the rest of the world and doing ok compared to the typical family of four over most of our history." They are "wealthier than the rest of the world and they are doing okay compared to families of the past". Both criteria suggest they have no right to complain.......that's the takeaway whether you intended it or not. And I have to add, its certainly in keeping with the attitude conveyed by your argument over the past two days. Finally, $50k for a family of four in a metro area is a very tight income. Depends on the metro area. I showed you that there were only 4 states with a median income at $50k or below. Given that piece of news, how can you possibly make the statement above? How many metro areas are you talking about..........2 or 3 or 4? Ten out of 300? This isn't a discussion; its a competition. For a single person, its okay but not great. And the truth is, its below the average median for the US. So its just above poverty. 2005 HHS Poverty Guidelines For "48 Contiguous States and D.C" Family size - Poverty Levelaspe.hhs.gov ; You are right......I confused the poverty threshholds with Section 8 income parameters. In Seattle, a family of four making $50,100 is eligible for public housing; a family making $31,300 is eligible for the Section 8 vouchers. This is not poverty but it sure as hell ain't middle class. ci.seattle.wa.us You might consider those figures to be two low but even if you double them, $50k would still be well above the poverty level for a family of 4 let alone for an individual. Its above poverty but its not the comfortable living that you are trying to suggest. No body wants to live in public housing and yet at $50k, a family of four in Seattle is eligible. Certainly Seattle is more expensive to live than Tuscaloosa, ALA or Bryan Station but its not nearly as expensive as a NYC or LA or SF or Chicago where a lot of the American population is centered. I still contend $50k is a barebones income for a family of four. ted
