Ted, do you believe one person should be killed if there is a 99% chance that it will save ten people who will otherwise die?

Stop evading the question. Its a very simple one. All it takes is a 'no' or 'yes' answer.

Do you believe someone should be tortured to death?

Your question is stupid, so most ignore it. No sane person believes others SHOULD BE tortured to death.

The more interesting question is whether one believes that there are instances where the usage of torture (which doesn't have to always lead to death) is a good idea, and if so, when?

I'm just trying to raise the level of your dialogue above the mundane and into something that is worth discussing.

Only extremist fanatics believe people should be tortured to death.
