You set up a straw man for me to knock down... a Hobsian choice. How about if the instead asked the American public: would you support a fair tax reform (individual and corporate), eliminating tax loopholes and lowering rates, and would you support elimination of wasteful and unnecessary government spending, and a ban on government deficit spending? Achieve to a significant extent portions of those goals, and your other so-called 'economic problems of the future' fade into insignificance.
