Path dependence is very important - not everything changes at the same speed, like the streets of a city long outlive most buildings. The most likely scenario is that English will dominate for centuries even, with more and more native speakers. The US will likely continue to dominate in basic science for a few decades at least. Economic and technologyic strength can and likely will change faster...
