You are so right. And it ain't just medicare but all health insurance public or private. Bush making noise about SS which might not even be in trouble is just more of his extreme ideology working while real problems are ignored.

"Frankly, Medicare problems worry me far more the SS."

I agree, JDN. Just looking at it from the fiscal point-of-view, the Medicare/Medicaid financial problem is likely 4 or 5 times LARGER then Social Security's financial problems.

"I have found out first hand how difficult it is for anyone to obtain private insurance as they age with even the slightest preexisting condition. I know this would be likely unpopular but if it took raising the monthly premium to even $200 for Medicare to fix it, that would be the way to go. Most people would find that to obtain PRIVATE insurance somewhere comparable to Medicare would cost $800-1,000 a MONTH today."

The only thing I can say is that --- since costs of *private health care* have been rising even FASTER then Medicare/Medicaid costs for years --- it seems to be pretty good evidence that we've got problems that affect the ENTIRE field of health care.
