I value internal differences. External differences too, as long as they don't aren't disruptive.

If a kid comes into class dressed for the zombie jamboree and the rest of the kids are thrown into turmoil as a result, I think that's bad.

You would probably say the same thing about a kid who came dressed to go hunting after school, like I did more than once. I didn't cause a turmoil, however. What I did was accepted practice.
