Maurice,
I agree with you.
I have walked in the back alleys of Tokyo and Yokahama after midnight and felt and was perfectly safe.

I grew up in New Orleans, back in the old days when sailors would come to town with wads of cash looking for hookers. The place I lived down was down by the docks so we kids saw a lot of bad things happen to men wandering around drunk waving handsful of cash. I saw a dead man lying on the sidewalk when I was still in kindergarten, on my way to school. He was stabbed in a bar fight.

I remember, clear as day, having a bit of dinner when I was older and working, and watching a drunk man with a big handful of cash wander out into the night, and then right after him two men that clearly meant him harm.

It made me think that flashing your cash is a stupid thing to do.
