OK. I won't argue with the limitations you have in mind. The Convention doesn't say you have to treat POWs like princes, either. It does say you can't torture them and you can't beat them to death. It says Malmedy and My Lai are war crimes. It says publishing that picture of SH was a violation of the treaty, although a relatively minor one.

There's a battle for hearts and minds going on too. If we appear as bad as the insurgents, the Iraqi population will side with the insurgents. They're fellow Muslims. If we act better, a good portion will decide they'd rather have our way. They've had quite enough of mindless brutality and torture from SH.

But, no, the Conventions don't say you can't do ANYTHING.
