I'm sure it'll cost well over $600 billion before the next president finally pulls American troops out of Iraq. A lot will happen while they're hungered down in their armored compounds. The Kurds will secede and found Kurdistan, fundamentalists will topple the House of Saud, Iraq will become embroiled in a civil war, etc. This does not even consider the lost opportunity cost of squandering our money and wasteful military industrial nonsense and not using it to address the major problems of our generation such as greenhouse gas emissions and energy sources to replace dwindling oil and natural gas supplies.
