"we grieve for the innocent and do what we can to avoid innocent civilian casualties."

We don't even count them. The military forbids soldiers to take and transmit pictures of engagements. Other than the estimates of NGO's, we have no idea how many innocents we kill. We have a habit of labeling any dead adult as an "insurgent". I haven't heard much grieving for the innocents from our military or government.

The press is too terrified to even go find out the truth, with good reason. I'm not defending the insurgents, who's deliberate targeting of innocent civilians would seem to be insane, but they didn't arise from nothing. It doesn't make us the good guys. As my mother would tell me when fighting with a brother and attempting to fix blame "It takes two to tango!".
