XIAMEN, May 23 (Xinhuanet) -- Organizations of Overseas Chinese and foreign nationals of the Chinese origin said Tuesday in Xiamen,a city in east China's Fujian Province, that they oppose "Taiwan Independence" and promote the island province's reunification with the motherland.

According to a document adopted by the third fraternity conference of the organizations being concluded in Xiamen on Tuesday, the Chinese nation is facing a critical strategic opportunity to stage a "great rejuvenation" in the 21st century.

"If the Chinese mainland and Taiwan can join hands, developmentof the Chinese nation will be beyond any restrictions and limits,"said the letter written by the participating overseas Chinese and foreign nationals of the Chinese origin to the Taiwan compatriots.

The Chinese nation can only realize the long-time dream of becoming a strong country when it is truly reunited, said the letter, which was read aloud at the conference's closing ceremony in both Chinese Mandarin and the Minnan (southern Fujian) dialect.

The letter also said the reunification of the Chinese nation would also enable the Taiwan compatriots to share the nation's "pride and honor" in the international community and make overseas Chinese to "straighten their back and stride forward in the world."

The conference opened last Thursday in Beijing and moved its venue to Xiamen, on the west side of the Taiwan Straits, on Sunday.

The conference, jointly organized by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council and China Overseas Exchanges Association, attracted more than 400 representatives from 80-strong countries and regions worldwide. Enditem news.xinhuanet.com
