Actually, whether or not the Newsweek story turns out to be true, there were other confirmations from the International Red Cross last week that the Koran was not treated correctly during interrogations.

It has to do with the other things - Saddam, and Abu Ghraib becuase it shows a pattern of American abuse - abusive behavior toward people/prisoners in our custody.

This hurts the US, and will come back on us.

There are 12 other sources now confirming various Koran abuse. Who cares except the rightwing has no business blaming their bad vibes with Islamics on one of the finest, hardworking news magazines in the world.

We would be a lot poorer as a nation if we were to lose Newsweek and other truth-telling news outlets like them. They're not perfect but they are a cornerstone of democracy and they really care about being accurate. Yes, there are more liberal than Fox News. But so what? 90% of what they print is unbiased. And they have George Will for balance.
