He was anti-liberal if you use the modern sense of the term liberal, and he had some common ground with conservatives, but I'd really have to say he was more libertarian than conservative.

He certainly didn't see himself as a conservative. True he did have a somewhat different read on the meaning of conservative than I do, but even by my read I'm not sure he really fits in. If he was still around and he wanted to be called a conservative I wouldn't object but I wouldn't call him one over his objections even if they were almost 50 years ago, and even if he was objecting to a different vision of conservatism then mine.

A side note. I tried a search to find out exactly when he died and maybe one or two other bits of information about him. I searched for "Hayek bio", and got a whole bunch of hits about Salma Hayek. I decided to modify the search rather then muddle through.
