There is no doubt that China has mastered manufacturing, but where is the innovation? Where is the creativity? Where is the ability to articulate a vision? Where is the Chinese TobagoJack?>

That's silly!. The Chinese Tobagojack is probably in the a Chinese version of Silicon Investor or better still at the top on a fast growing Chinese company. He is likely to articulate his/her vision in mandarin and you won't even understand it.

100 years ago everybody in Europe knew that the Asians were genetically inferior. Now that it is impossible to hold that belief in the face of the evidence of successful Asians in the US, we have a revised version of the comforting delusion - the Chinese are culturally inferior and need our education system to do well.

I expect that in a surprisingly small number of years China will be pulling its weight creatively in all the sciences and the arts.

Mary,

I wasn't quite sure about the fact on University rankings, so I did a bit of research and discovered this item:

ed.sjtu.edu.cn

As you say, the U.S. appears to hold a daunting lead in higher education.

Which makes me wonder how we can create so many backward evangelicals?

Curiously, the U.S. also seems to lead the OECD nations in the number of completely deluded religious nutcases per capita.
