crossy: hedge funds are over German companies because due to the problematic demographics and the inability of German politics and society to reform the welfare state, they have become VERY cheap to buy. The hedge funds cut out the best part and very successfully make big money that way. Unfortunately, they eliminate many jobs WITHOUT creating any new ones, and they create profit/wealth for just a few.
There is a disconnect between the success of public companies and the benefit for the broad public (note: I talk about the broad public, - of course there are investors who can afford to risk part of their money in the stock/futures/hedge fund market and who make big bucks). But this disconnect is dangerous, because it erodes the middle class and produces a small wealthy upper class. ...and I thought that most modern democratic societies had realized that this is not very healthy for a stable political system...

any way... sorry for my ramblings...

cheers - Laurin
