The lines were appropriate for the plot line, which supposedly was developed by George Lucas thirty years ago. While the blogs have made a big deal out of the comments, I don't recall that Lucas has been particularly active politically, though I am under no illusions as to his proclivities. I am certain that Lucas was fully aware that the lines would generate some controversy and I am disappointed that he chose to leave them in.
