See the 'Enron" movie...

I've seen the movie and I thought that it was excellent. I was also appreciative that it didn't trigger my gag reflect.

The documentary spent all of 30 seconds on the mysterious Arnold Schwarzenegger-Ken Lay "meeting," providing no details in what was a lame and ineffectual attempt to connect Schwarzenegger to the energy crisis. The meeting was not even discussed in the McLean-Elkind book that provided the jumping off point for the movie.

On the other hand, Kurt Eichenwald provides an account of the event in his book "Conspiracy of Fools." Did you know that Richard Riordan, who was LA's mayor at the time, was at the meeting? Also Michael Milken and other members of what Eichenwald described as "LA's political and finanical communities. The group was discussing possible solutions to the energy crisis."

Part of Eichenwald's account:

After the meeting broke up, Lay lingered. In a moment, he saw Schwarzenegger approaching. During the meeting, the actor had asked no questions, but now seemed eager for a conversation. The two were introduced and shook hands.

"I thought your ideas were very interesting," Schwarzenegger said. "I'm delighted at least to see that somebody is thinking about how to solve this problem."

Lay nodded. He understood. Everyone, Schwarzenegger included, was tired of the dithering by Gray Davis. "At least we're trying," Lay replied.

"Well, I look forward to following your success," Schwarzenegger said. "I'll mention a few of your ideas to my friends in Sacramento."

Wow, get the Schwarzenegger indictment ready.

You should pick up a copy of Eichenwald's book and take a look at pages 454-455.

Or perhaps you can go to the library and rip out a couple of pages.
