I didn't light up until 1967 in college. I do remember the 25 cents gas though. Cruise a route, drive in to drive in. Steak "n" Shake got started here.

I spent some summer times at my grandmother's place in a town of 300 when I was 8-12. I'd get 25 cents for a burger and a LARGE fountain Coke and after eating I'd pick up the mail for my grandmother and her neighbors. G-9 was her code.

First car was a 1964 pontiac tempest--cost was approximately $2400. Best guess at least. My friend had a Toyota, one of the first sold in the US. I think it cost about 1000-1200(not sure) and it was a pos.
