"The elevator's down and there's smoke in the hallway," said my boss. Both those facts were absolutely true. Thing is, the smoke was from 20-somethings from a boiler room operation taking a smoke break every two hours. Yet my supervisor's clever choice of unrelated information inspired our generally nonresponsive landlord to rush out and fix the elevator that very hour. Funny what unrelated facts can insinuate.
