"There's also been plenty of talk about hooking VoIP networks into the emergency services - particularly after the US FCC ordered US based networks to offer such services if they market broadband only voice as a solution. Zennstrom is calling for an 'Open API' for emergency call centres so that VoIP networks can easily link into existing emegency call centres.

His point is that emergency calls shouldn't be restricted to just voice - why shouldn´t IM or SMS messages be included too? He's also looking at the creation of an international IP address database so that common IP addresses can be translated into geographical locations to aid the emergency services." µ
