"This is why the founding fathers deliberately kept the federal government poor. With no money to spread around, they could not get too greedy for power."

Clearly... the firewalls against growth of an overweening power in the federal government have finally eroded away.

The dam has breached.

The 'division of powers' conception has finally proven to not be a fool-proof protection against the emergence of a Big Brother.

Serious reform is now required... and I believe you are correct that MONEY is at the heart of the federal encroachment.

Likely only as serious a step as a constitutional restriction upon the federal power to deficit finance will be able to reverse the loss of freedoms and economic vitality now.

Nothing else is likely to suffice.
