Well, I want to make one thing clear. Bush has NEVER outlawed ANY kind of stem cell research, he merely has refused TO USE FEDERAL MONEY for Stem Cell research EXCEPT in the case of those 78 lines of stem cells already in existence. That being said, my son, who works at NIH and is in a far better positition then I to comment on this, tells me that people are expecting too much from stem cells as the science is in its infancy and they have a LONG WAY to go to even determine if this is going to prove valuable let alone actually come up with a cure for something. So, at this point in time, I find it difficult to get excited over all of this and question whether we really want to spend much federal money anyhow. I would imagin that if it ever DOES prove to be valuable, it will go forward regardless of anyones personal feelings. For now, I think its just a political PLOY and the sad thing is its used in a mean way as it raises peoples hopes far beyond reality. jdn
