If GOP senators approve Bolton they are bolt-heads. The problem for us in Iraq is the Bolton mentality. That neocon arogance is exactly what has cost us so dearly. Bush refused to do any serious diplomacy to bring others to our sides. Diplomacy would have entailed patience, preparation and compromise, which Bush-Cheney and Bolton types working for them refused to consider. As it turns out, diplomacy, preparation, patience and compromise were exactly what we needed. If we had agreed to wait six months and share oil and construction contracts, for instance, we could have gotten the UN behind us, even France. So in effect, the Bolton mentality is what cost us the peace in Iraq. It's what denied us victory. It's what may make this whole Iraq War a big waste. And this is the man Bush wants as our chief diplomat. A man who can't do diplomacy.
