Priscilla Owen, a Texas Supreme Court justice who was one of the first judicial nominees Bush sent to the Senate in May 2001, is at the center of the storm over the federal judiciary.

Age: 50.

Education: B.A., Baylor University, 1975; J.D., Baylor University School of Law, 1977. She graduated among the top of her law school class and scored the highest grade on the Texas bar exam when she took it in 1978.

Experience: associate and partner, 1978-1994; justice, Texas Supreme Court, 1995-present.
