Re: The key is that we must expect Iraq to pay us back for our expenditures, with interest. If the "we" you refer to is the American taxpayer, you better disabuse yourself of this hope immediately. The way this racket works is that GOP apparatchiks are already grossly engorging themselves on American taxpayer funds and Iraqi national assets. $8.8 Billion of last years "supplemental" has disappeared down the GOP rabbit hole. And that's just what cannot be accounted for. While the insiders are going to grow extremely rich off the conquest of Iraq, playing both sides of the street, so to speak; the American and Iraqi people are both going to be the chumps in this game. It will take a long time for the American people to realize that we have more in common with the Iraqi people than we do with the dirty bastards who concocted this evil war to enrich only themselves.
