If being conservative means defending the indefensible simply because it is America that is doing it, out of sheer blind patriotism, then I believe liberals do have the market cornered on wanting what's good for the country. I think liberals also have a much keener sense that we are all part of an interconnected whole, all of the world's citizens, not just Americans. Ultimately, what is good for the third world--preserving the rain forest, paying non-sweatshop wages, ending child labor, feeding the hungry, ending poverty, all sorts of issues really--also protects America. I don't get any sense from what conservatives write about here that they give that much thought. I hope I'm wrong, though.
