And we(all developed nations) should help more when we can assuming that the money does not make it into the hands of corrupt leaders.

Like the $8.8B of OUR money that is now unaccounted for, in Iraq?!

The only way to ensure the money does not end up in some other corrupt person's pockets is to keep it in your own.

Ronald Reagan departed from previous administration’s policies of supporting dictators who were allies. He pitched Marcos when Benigno Aquino was assassinated. Aquino's widow Corazon was provided the opportunity to become corrupt, and the transition to democracy in the Philippines has been halting even to this day.
