Compare the above Sox chart to Cary's table. Look at the last couple of columns and see where the bookings fall for 3 straight quarters. Ignore the data from 2001, since this was after the massive overbuilding from 2000, and start with the first quarter of 2003. This was a great time to buy and nice profits were had by anyone purchasing then. Bookings fell from 3500 to 2300 (-35%) during this period and buying in advance of the turn was very profitable.

Next, look at where we are now. Bookings have fallen from $4800 in Q2 04 to $2900 in Q1 05 (-40%). I suggest that we may be seeing the recent strength in this sector using a similar approach to that of Q1 03. Buying in advance of the turn has been a tradition in this sector.

Like you said, RtS, if you believe the industry will improve in late 2005 or early 2006 then you need to consider buying in now.
