Yet, not for the first time, European leaders are advocating the economics of the mad house. They want America to cut its deficits and "save more" - as though this were a solution without real economic consequences.

Was Keynes never translated into German and French? For "save more" read, "spend less". The result might be a stronger dollar (or it might not) but it would not be good for the world economy.
