thanks. and thanks for the great detail.

i don't doubt henry's heart is in the right place. but in this place, if you don't pay attention to the composition of your message, often, the message doesn't get delivered as intended.

but that will be henry's bane.

There is no question that the bird flu thing needs close watching.

What bothers me is that if you do the right Google search on Henry you get all these references to "Harvard Professor," and Henry is not, never has been, and never will be (if current Laurence Summers, President of Harvard, has his say in policies) a Harvard Professor. That is, Henry has not status in professorial rank at Harvard, and professorial rank means tenure or at least possible tenure track at Harvard. "Professor" does not include some one-year or research appointment.

It would be better if Henry could discourage these press releases, especially from Asian countries, that identify him as a "Harvard Professor."

<<The normal 'culling' process is to draw a circle around the farm of around 3 KM's and KILL all animals within that circle. It is done quickly and quietly.>>

Can you be sure of getting to all the animals? I don't know about China, but in various parts of SE Asia, you see the big inverted baskets with the prized fighting cocks enjoying the view of the road. As you know, wagering on cockfights not only provides the bulk of many incomes there, but the owners are quite fond of the birds. Caged songbirds kept as pets are also common. I suspect many an owner will hide these or spirit them out of the area. Not to mention the common run of wild birds. Pigs, ducks with clipped wings, and other domesticated livestock shouldn't be a problem, but how do you achieve a total cull?
