Certainly the Bush folk don't. Just check what they did to it to see how little they wish to help.

My guess is there are some interesting proposals buried in the policy wonks files. But they won't see the light of day so long as the Bush folk think the point is to dismantle the safety net.

As for SS, I agree with Rubin. The best strategy to retain SS is not to negotiate. The problems are a long way down the road unless we are talking about one's created by the growing deficit. Which is Bush's creation and can't be fixed as long as he is in office.
