I will give you guys a few examples of what is going on. I was at a chicken farm in Assia (country not named) and this was a fully operational farm. These were egg laying chickens. The workers would not enter the coops without full protective clothing (hazard suits) and a type of filter that fits over the mouth and nose. We were told by the govt. people we were with to NOT enter the coop until we dressed the same way,in fact several of the govt. people would not go in period. Eggs are collected daily then transported to the city for sale, ending up as a meal all over the city, including 5 star hotels. As we left the farm, and were driving down the road a ways, we passed farm after farm that was empty, recent culling had taken place. Here is a great article with some first hand experience in the field in Asia (not mine), my experience tells me that it is about the same situation all over Asia.
