You get used to them and anticipate their moves, but once in a while they will still throw you. My 83 year old dad did the "driving onto the exit ramp of a highway" move a few months ago so I am keeping my eye on him. In Florida you can make an anonymous call and the authorities will visit a geezer at home and determine whether he/she can still drive. The best thing is to arrange for a cab company to drive him/her wherever they want to go. A friend of mine's dad gets driven back and forth to a bar on the beach everyday, where he gets really drunk. We figure that's what he has worked towards his entire life, so more power to him.
