I've always contended that dogs, pigs, chimps and so forth--THOUGHT and TALKED. The logic is generally at a minimal level. But that they think like a small human child cannot be denied. But their language (and physiology) is programmed entirely differently...and they will not develop the ability to speak--even though they may understand some of our words. This does not mean they are inferior. Perhaps there are many creatures superior to us on their own level of perception. I remember an Arthur C. Clark story where earthlings discovered the demise of a dead planet and found that the final tapes, sculptures, etc. were from beetles. WE are probably beetles. So we ought to be good and kind...
