I believe this is a real issue (ignoring personalities, motivations of posters, etc.).

I ran into an old high school classmate in December. He is a doctor with WHO and he was very concerned about this issue. I was aware of the issue from Henry's posts.

At the time I asked a friend (doctor at Hoag Hospital) if they were taking any extra precautions, and he hadn't heard anything ... yet. With the warnings in Nature and elsewhere today, it is now in the Media. Like this:

Flu pandemic warnings escalate

If I remember correctly, Henry sounded a similar alarm for SARS - and that hasn't amounted to anything, at least not yet. I just take his stuff as input and then go from there.

There will probably be another pandemic some day. Whether this will be the source or not is still an open question.
