Reweighting, when done a) without notification to the reader b) without obvious justification and c) with major, yet undisclosed, effects on the results, tends naturally to awaken suspicions, especially when all the benefits go to one side of the aisle. I don't buy the conspiracy proposition simply as a suspicion. As I said, however, I agree that the absence of an explanation and a rationale should be considered a shortcoming. But it's a sin that's very widely committed in the industry, whatever the source.
