Even people of other religions like Jews and Muslims who don't recognize Christ as the Son of God revere Him as a good man and a prophet. Mapplethorpe was a homosexual, died of AIDS, and much of his other work was about anal sex with such things as whips being inserted anally. He was also into pain and bondage. If Mapplethorpe had taken plastic images of Bill and Hillary and dunked them into that disgusting mess and called it Piss Clintons, would you call that a statement about Baptists? Would liberals be calling that a great work of art?

I think Christ would fully approve of Piss Christ, Don't do that. Don't justify your screwed up beliefs by saying you think Christ would approve. We have no way of knowing Gods mind and to assign human values to His mind, to think He would accept something so base as OK, is you stretching your imagination into places it should not go. Just leave it at the fact that you like it or can justify it or whatever. What most mainstream Americans think, those who do not think they are art "aficionados," is that the artist did it for sensationalism, got his wish and has faded from view. he his 15 seconds of fame. no more, no less. Justification for his acts probably privately pleases him because he knows he did it to stir up people and it is not "art"
