Congressman Conyers (a real patriot) posts on the Daily Kos blog...fyi...

Can't we do More? (4.00 / 17)

No offense taken.

We do not have subpoena power, that is the big one. We write letters. We can ask for GAO investigations. We can ask for independent counsels. Some times we can pursue FOIA requests. We can introduce bills and amendments. We can try to do our own investigations based on grit and persuasion.

Perhaps our greatest power is public education that leads to public pressure to do the right thing.

Re: Keep in mind Clinton was a payback for Nixon

LOL! That's one of the most cockamamie stories of the year. The absurdity of this goofball notion had me guffawing from the first time I saw it. Great spin, but hardly the truth.

Clinton was attacked so that despicable druggies like Rush Limbaugh and demented dingbats like Dr. Dobson could stir up the faithful and get them salivating about "the enemy".

Haven't you noticed how the Right Wing seems to be a snarling, rabid, drooling cur? Those who foment this vicious behavior couldn't care less about avenging Nixon. All they were interested in was demagoguing a very naive and excitable mob.

I agree that the Clinton abuse was a payback for Nixon. Not only that, Nixon led to Ford (who pardoned him), who lost to Carter in a fit of national moral outrage. Thus we got stuck with a terrible President. The moral outrage over the Clinton BJ caused boring Gore to lose in an unprecedented time of peace and prosperity. Giving us the worst President of my lifetime, George W. Bush! Morals is a LOUSY reason to vote for a President. Pick a smart pragmatist, please!
