Wow I'm impressed you had to look all the way back to 1997 to find some support for your views.

"Apples upgrade path has always sucked"

However you didn't read closely enough. I was talking about hardware upgrades.

I have criticized OSX for what it NEEDS to be criticized for, namely Apples dropping the ball on usability, releasing earlier beta versions of OSX as real versions.

I have also praised OSX for what's good about it, the solidity of its UNIX underpinning, the improvements in networking etc, Panther, Classic running withing OSX.

It's a great system now, save some idiotic UI decisions (which I blame mostly on Jobs' inability to admit wrong) and the abandonment of passionate usability designers.

Really I don't think I can be accused of being overly negative or overly positive. I've tried to be an unbiased contributor to balance out those who are BIASED on this thread. We know who they are, those for whom Apple can do no wrong and those who think Apple will fold at any time.

I am personally bullish on Apple but they need to be called when they blow it. If we didn't you'd still be buying useless Pucks instead of the marginally better (but stupid) one button mouse that comes with Macs today.

I may test Tiger but even at $79 I see no compelling reason to upgrade. In fact I think it appears to be so buggy that it may discourage switchers. I feel the same about XP. Both upgrades seem to benefit their makers more than their users.

I put my opinions out there because I thought that an unbiased opinion would be useful to people who have money down on this company. Apple's not hauling it in on this upgrade like it did on Panther.
