May 27 (Bloomberg) -- The more rum you drink, the better these bonds look.

The Puerto Rico Infrastructure Financing Authority is going to sell $520 million in ``special tax revenue bonds'' in June to help pay for capital projects and to cover part of the island's budget. The ``special tax'' is the federal excise tax on rum.

The bad news for holders of bonds backed by the settlement with the tobacco industry in 1998 is that people are smoking less. The good news, at least for residents of Puerto Rico, who look to the Infrastructure Financing Authority for development and other help, is that they are drinking more. ...<<
