Every young man in my HS had his BSA knife in his pocket. Many of us since we went hunting after school had larger folding knives on our belts during school. Most of the cars in the parking lot had guns in them because again we went hunting after school.

I never heard of anyone being shot or stabbed though there were obviously far more guns and knives around the school then there are now.

I wonder why that would be?
