I used to teach statistics and mathematics, so I know what it means.

The majority of problems can be approach with common sense. They don't need statisticians or mathematicians like me. For example: common sense tell us that any voting machine should have paper trails and audit trails. The test system should show the accuracies of the voter's tally, and all possible illegal entries should be attempted, tested and the results of discrepancies must be verified by independent entities. If all the test programs are deemed acceptable, the source and the executable versions should be password protected and secured. That is what common sense requires.
