Z, re: John, I think you're hearkening back to a time that never happened... No doubt it was always contentious between Reps and Dems. But the majority was bunched towards the middle, slightly conservative or slightly liberal. As you say, they went out for a beer after "work", and that's probably where they reached a compromise that wasn't radical. Now they have a nuke 'em mentality towards each other, and we have the tyranny of the (slight) majority. John
