Kyros, I recall as a child, old Chinese in Greys Avenue in Auckland smoking opium and they were ignored [though I can't say I directly observed that].

The fanaticism about drugs is a post 1960s psychosis [on the part of both those using them and stopping them].

I think if they were legal, a lot of the cache in using them would go. They would revert to loser status instead of defiant cool-dude status, with lots of money swooping around them.
