I hate to add more personal information, but because this issue seems to have been oddly blown out of proportion, I will tell you I joined the NRA sort of on a lark at 20- right after I married, when my husband bought me my first gun. We were both very young; I knew absolutely nothing about the NRA, and if I recall we joined because my husband thought it would be cool to have the hats, and he wanted the bumper sticker "When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns" for his black camaro. I was young, and working full time at a dinner house, and going to school full time- and I didn't have the time or interest to research the NRA. My husband thought it would be cool to join, and that was ok with me. The older I got, the more I had time to read, and the more political I got. It seemed to me that the NRA was willing to oppose ALL gun restrictions (like wait periods) and some of these restrictions made a lot of sense to me. I don't regret joining, but I certainly wouldn't join today, or support the NRA. And while I may not know much about assault weapons, or machine guns, and their differences, I do know I would like to see more restrictions on weapons that fire very quickly, and fire large numbers of bullets- and I would like the ban on such weapons not to be evaded by cosmetic changes. Some people may find that ignorant, but I don't care. I am comfortable with my middle of the road position on guns.
