It's not just blacks coming out of slavery, it was all people with higher melanin contents in their skin, wherever they were encountered, and also included the Irish- and several other peoples who were considered "inferior" by the English. If this wasn't prejudice than you might as well throw out the word, because it is meaningless- and applies to nothing. The problem is not with differences, the problem lies in global generalizations about the differences (and restrictions in freedom based on generalization)- something people are still all too eager to do...about all sorts of people.
